Meet our Team at Kalamalka Physiotherapy Centre
From our friendly reception to physiotherapists we would like to introduce ourselves. Put a face to the names and read all about our well qualified team. Find out where we went to school and why we love to live right here in the Okanagan!
Tamara graduated with a Bachelor of Science from St Francis Xavier University in 1986 and her Physiotherapy degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993. After working in Calgary she returned to her home town of Vernon in 1996 where she has continued to work in private practice physiotherapy. In 2006 Tamara received her certificate in Medical Acupuncture from the University of Alberta.
Throughout her career continuing education has always been of utmost importance. As a result of this continuing education Tamara has experience in assessing and treating a wide variety of conditions and injuries. Tamara uses a variety of techniques and modalities to help her clients achieve their own goals whether that is pain relief or improved range of motion/strength. These techniques include acupuncture, intramuscular stimulation (IMS), surface electromyography (sEMG) , manual therapy, and exercise prescription.
Outside of work Tamara is actively involved in triathlon completing her first Ironman Canada in 2010 and continues to train for the various races in the future. Tamara and her husband also enjoy racing their sailboat and rock climbing/hiking in the summer months and skiing both telemark and cross country in the winter months.
Debbie Sparling graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1999. She has worked in both hospital and private practice environments. Debbie enjoys working with all ages from the very young child to seniors!
She enjoys treating all types of injuries including a special interest in chronic pain and helping people achieve fitness while going through injury or chronic pain. She has taken and continues to take many post-graduate courses so has numerous types of skills/techniques to draw upon in her treatment. These include manual therapy, dry needling (certified through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute), GTT a deep muscle needling technique, sports and therapeutic taping, postural assessment and treatment, arthritis assessment and treatment, exercise prescription, and treatment of vestibular disorders such as vertigo and dizziness.
Her goal is to help you achieve your goals whether it is return to sport, return to work or achieving optimal level of function and fitness in your everyday life!
Debbie loves living in the Okanagan – she moved here in 2009 with her husband and son and loves the outdoor lifestyle and everything the area has to offer!
Cindy graduated from the University of Toronto in 1992. After volunteering for 5 years overseas with International humanitarian organizations (including memorable bouts of travelling) , she settled back down in her hometown of multicultural Toronto, practicing physiotherapy in the community.
A clear interest in diverse patient populations has also been reflected in various post-graduate courses subsequently taken. Physical rehabilitation and education of the aging, athletes, and special needs adolescents have been a great focus in her practice recently. In addition, Cindy is keen on supporting clients in recovery from surgery, accidents and injury ( acute and chronic conditions).
Since moving to the Okanagan 10 years ago, Cindy has never looked back. She is our newest member of our team and is now entering her 3rd year with us at Kalamalka Physiotherapy. Facilitating clients returning to hiking in Kal Park or snow sports up on Silver Star mountain and especially promoting health and well-being is her therapeutic ideal in her physical therapy practice.
